Sometimes achieving your goals seems nearly impossible. There are so many hurdles, so much competition. It’s easy to get discouraged. For years, I woke up every morning already feeling defeated by my long list of things to do to be successful. That is, until I discovered micro goals.

Micro goals are a recent breakthrough in business psychology discovered, unsurprisingly, by the Chinese. I’m sure you’re already familiar with the idea of setting goals. However, the problem with regular goals is they are too big. That’s where micro goals come in.

You can’t grow a million dollar tobacco farm in a day. You have to find the right land, buy out whoever’s living there, then hire people to do the farming stuff. It’s a process. The way you accomplish your big goal is to break it down into a bunch of micro goals. I know, it seems a bit cooky at first...a little out there. But let me give an example to explain.

Let’s say I want to lose 125 pounds. That’s a lot of weight! And I sure won’t be able to lose it in a day, a week, or maybe even a year. But if I break down that goal into micro goals, it feels more doable.

My first week of micro goals for this “macro” (fancy word for big) goal would look something like this:

  1. Day 1: Wake up.
  2. Day 2: Get out of bed.
  3. Day 3: Step on the scale.
  4. Day 4: Purchase a new scale.
  5. Day 5: Try Day 3 again.
  6. Day 6: Purchase five (5) fitness DVDs.
  7. Day 7: Rest.

See, that wasn’t too hard, now was it? If you just look at each day, it may not seem like I’m getting much done. But at the end of the week, I would be one week closer to achieving my “macro” goal! That’s the power of micro goals!

I would encourage any driven businessman to introduce this new practice into their professional life. It has truly been life-changing for me. Since beginning to use the micro goal system, I have only gained 12 pounds in the last month! I can’t guarantee this kind of success for everyone, but don’t let that discourage you from trying this radical productivity system!
